The Unveiling of Secrets

Today is a very special day for us all here at Realmac as we're finally able to reveal a few details about RapidWeaver 4. Of course, we're not announcing the final release of version 4 as that is still a little way off. However, as we approach the release of a first private beta we decided it was time to lift the veil of secrecy on the year-long development of RapidWeaver 4.

4_sneak_peak

Earlier this week, we allowed the first public build of RapidWeaver to leave Realmac HQ - and let Ars Technica's David Chartier take an exclusive first-look at just some of the new features in RapidWeaver 4.

Of course, it would be cruel to offer up a preview of RapidWeaver 4.0, yet not allow users to apply to beta-test it! So, we're also pleased to announce that we're looking for a few thrill-seekers ready to put the application through its paces in our private beta test which will start later this month. All the details for this can be found within the Ars Technica post.

The open ‘XML Bundle’ file format in RapidWeaver 4 is a feature we’re really excited to be able to offer our users and other developers. If you’re a developer interested in exploring uses for the file format, please get in touch with us for further information.

As we get closer to the final launch of RapidWeaver 4, we’ll be sharing a few more details with you - so stay tuned, and if you like what you see of RapidWeaver 4, be sure to Digg it!

RapidWeaver 3.6.6 is out now!

Greetings RapidWeavers!

As we mentioned in our last blog post, we've been busy on RapidWeaver 4.0, however we've also working hard to fix some minor issues with RapidWeaver 3.6.5. Today, we're pleased to announce that RapidWeaver 3.6.6 is now out. In this update, we've resolved issues with Image Normalisation, Page-Specific Theme .plist files, Movie playback and a much-improved export speed. This is a free update for all registered users of RapidWeaver 3.6.x and we strongly advise all customers (on both Leopard and Tiger) to update to this new version. You can grab it on our downloads page. Happy Weaving!

Looking Backwards and Forwards

As we approach the Christmas break in the Realmac Office, we've been looking back on 2007...

It's been quite a year for RapidWeaver. The user base has grown by tens of thousands of people, and the application is now more stable and more mature than ever before. I'd like to thank all the Theme and Plugin developers, and especially the users for all their support.

Without you guys RapidWeaver really wouldn't be what it is today. Thank you!

Next year is going to be a very exciting time for RapidWeaver and its users. We'll be releasing version 4.0, and with that some monumental changes are happening, even more than we had anticipated.

Due to the changes we're making to the core of RapidWeaver, we've unfortunately had to push back the release schedule. But on the positive side you'll be rewarded with a much better application!

We're currently aiming to have a private beta out in the early part of 2008. And yes, RapidWeaver 4.0 is a FREE upgrade for all 3.6 users, but it will require Leopard. Don't worry if you're not planning on upgrading to Leopard anytime soon as we will continue to support 3.6 for the foreseeable future.

Happy Holidays and here's to 2008!

Oh, and if you want to keep a closer eye on what we're up to here in the office, you can find us all on Pownce!

RapidWeaver 3.6.5 Out Now!

Greetings RapidWeavers!

It's been a little over 2 weeks since Mac OS X Leopard came out, and we've been working hard to fix the niggling issues with RapidWeaver 3.6.4 & the new big-cat. Astute users may have noticed we've been releasing alpha builds of RapidWeaver 3.6.5 (to fix Leopard issues) on our forums, but today we're pleased to announce that RapidWeaver 3.6.5 is now out of testing and available for public consumption!

This update is recommended for everyone, including OS X 10.4 Tiger users. You can grab it on our downloads page. Happy Weaving!

Hello Leopard!

Early this week we released RapidWeaver 3.6.4, and it runs great under Tiger and Leopard. In fact I'm using 3.6.4 under Leopard to publish this blog.

Now that Leopard is finally out I can tell you a little more about RapidWeaver 4.0. We plan to release it before the end of the year and it will be a free upgrade for all 3.6 users.

Enough of the boring stuff here's the shiny new RapidWeaver icon in Leopard:

And even more importantly here's the new UI. It now looks and works great under Leopard and is resolution independent. Please note, this screenshot does not represent the final shipping version.

In the coming weeks I'll be posting more details on what else is new in version 4.0. Stay tuned!

Update: Some users are reporting some very minor issues with 3.6.4 under Leopard, we're currently looking into these reports and will issue an update within the next few days.

Ton-o-schwag!

As I mentioned in my previous post, we have a "ton-o-schwag" to give away at MacLive Expo later this week. Here's a small preview of the badge, t-shirt, booklet and flyer.

I'll post some more detailed photos on Fickr very soon!

Shopping Cart Plug-In for RapidWeaver

YourHead Software and Yabdab Software have teamed up to build a great new e-commerce plugin for RapidWeaver. It's called PayLoom and allows users to build a web store in minutes all from within RapidWeaver.

payloom

It's amazingly easy to use, you just need a PayPal account and a copy RapidWeaver and you'll have a web store up and running in no time. Don't believe me? Give it a try, it's seriously good!

Oh, and just a quick update on the progress of RapidWeaver 4.0 (aka 3.7) before I sign-off. It's shaping up very nicely, and we hope to have a public beta out around the time that Leopard ships. I'll post more details on this very soon!

RapidWeaver 3.7 in development

We're currently putting the finishes touches to RapidWeaver 3.6.3, this next release should fix up any outstanding bugs that slipped into 3.6.2. You can expect the update within the next few weeks.

And now for the really exciting news – We've already started work on RapidWeaver 3.7, yes, that's right version 3.7!

RapidWeaver 3.7 is going to be Leopard only. And boy, is it going to be good!

RapidWeaver and Leopard

I can already hear the cries of "Nooo, I'm not ready to upgrade to Leopard!"

Don't Panic! We're still going to sell and support RapidWeaver 3.6.x even after Leopard ships.

You're probably thinking, "Okay, so how much is this new whizzy upgrade going to cost me?" Nothing, nil, gratis, zilch. It's a free upgrade for all users of version 3.6 - Yes, totally free!

We're planning on releasing version 3.7 at the same time as Leopard. But seeing as Apple haven't announced an exact release date yet, the best timeframe we can give is sometime in October.

You can expect more development news on RapidWeaver 3.7 very soon.

Back from WWDC 2007

Last week we attended WWDC07, it was absolutely amazing. We learnt a ton of new stuff and met up with some truly awesome developers and friends.

WWDC 2007 Banner

Speaking of awesome developers — It was the first time, Me, Josh, Andre and Ben have had a chance to sit down together and talk about the future of RapidWeaver. Needless to say it went well, very well!

The future of RapidWeaver is looking brighter and more exciting than ever before. We now have a great roadmap leading up to Leopards release and beyond.

Turns out the first few years were just the beginning ;)

Going to WWDC 2007

Later this week Me and Ben are flying over to San Francisco for the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC).

I'm really looking forward to the Keynote this year. Stevie J has promised to demo a feature complete version of Leopard, and even better than that we get to take a copy away with us. Woohoo!

I'll be posting plenty of photos from WWDC during the week, so keep an eye on the Realmac flickr account.

See you there!
