Horrific Newbie Here! 1 easy question

Im sure this is going to make some of you laugh, but I am working on my sitemap right now with the sitemap plugin. I currently have “sitemap” as a parent page, but i do not want it to show up on my navigation menus at the top. How do I remove the page from the navigation area while still keeping it as part of the website and the sitemap.xml file. Im not sure if what I am saying makes sense, but any help would be appreciated. Please see attached thumbnail.

RW don’t publish new changes

I used RW some time ago, and when I wanted to add new informations and some changes in photos RW doesn’t publish my changes. First it says
“private/var/folders/YC/YCsVX-P1GSu17eDK-a-raE+++TI/TemporaryItems/RapidWeaver/3603/document-5026096/RWDocument
does not contain the files; I updated to RW 3.6.7 but same result.
Now I can preview my data but there is no formatting like before and publishing is still not possible.
Did I change any folders? What about the private/var/folders ?

I am no expert but I want to continue using RW because it is the fastest way for me to show my firm in internet, at least it was.

Can anyone help me?

Using Repeated Images - How to Avoid Redundant Copies?

Hi,

I have just finished my first RW based site, and I have to say I’m pretty happy with the result.

One issue I have encountered however:

I am using a single small image repeatedly as list bullet, and I have noticed that although I simply copy & paste the same image file 15 or so times, RM creates 15 differently named copies of that one image. That of course means that I end up with 15 separate files in my site resources folder, and visitors will download that one identical image 15 times.

I figured I could simply change the filename of the 14 redundant copies to the filename of the first instance of the image, thinking that RM would now only upload a single instance of the image to my webspace, but RW keeps overriding my name changes to it’s original file naming scheme, and I still end up with my redundant copies.

Could anyone suggest a solution for this issue? I’d be grateful for any ideas!

Adding Twitter to your RapidWeaver site.

Magpie is a PHP script that will add your recent tweets to your webpage. You can see it in action on Nik’s California Roadtrip site.

I thought some users may like to add this to their RapidWeaver site so I’ve added a quick tutorial explaining how to do this.

Adding Magpie to your theme files.

First we need to add our key PHP files into the theme. This is the most tricky part of the process as it requires modifying the theme files.

Step One

If you’re working on a standard theme it’s best to duplicate it before you make any adjustments. Simply right click on the theme in the theme drawer and select *Duplicate Theme*, then give it a name. Now right click on your newly created theme and select *Reveal Theme Contents in Finder* (4.0) or *Show Contents* (3.x). This will open up your theme file in the finder.

Step Two

Download the Magpie files, and unzip the file on your desktop. We’ll need to drop the *includes* folder into the *Contents* folder of your theme file.

Step Three

Now we need to tell RapidWeaver that it needs to upload the contents of this folder. To do this we must edit the *theme.plist* file. You can open this in any text editor but TextWranger is a great example of a free text editor that will make these files much easier to read.

About nine lines down you will see a block that looks similar to this;

We now need to add the *includes* folder to this list so insert a new `<string>` anywhere in between the `<array` elements.

Save this file and we are ready to insert the twitter feed into our webpage.

Step Four

To insert the feed simply paste the following code anywhere in a styled text or HTML area in RapidWeaver.

Make sure you change the link in the *$rss* variable to the url of your own Twitter feed. You can get this by clicking the RSS button in the URL bar of Safari while on your Twitter homepage.

You can change the *$limit* number to anything between 1 and 20. This is the number of Tweets displayed.

You can show or hide your username by entering *true* or *false* in the *$username* field.

That’s it! Ensure your filename has a .php extension. (e.g index.php) in the page inspector.

All that’s left to do now is to apply some CSS to make it look nice. The following code should provide a good starting point. Add this to your Custom CSS box in the page inspector.

Perhaps even add an title and description and avatar above the PHP to explain what Twitter is to your readers.

Adding the feed to every page in your site

If you wish to add the feed to every page in your site, you can add the code to your index.html file in the theme folder. For example to display it in the sidebar below all other content just paste the code after the &37;sidebar&37; tag. Also remember to ensure the filename of all your pages are set to filename.php.

NOTES:

Because this uses PHP to parse in the tweets it will not display the list until you publish your site. Secondly please ensure you have PHP available on your server otherwise this will not work.

I am very excited about new site we just launched recently using Rapidweaver, a Freshme Theme, several plugins like Blocks, Stacks, and Cartloom. It’s an iTunes application for Mac users. Remove elements from stock themes

I love the stock themes that RapidWeaver provides. I’ve got my site up and running and it’s looking great, I’d just like to get rid of one graphic element. The gold bar at the top of the page…

Is this controlled in the css style sheet of the theme? I’ve tried to edit it before, and could never get the permissions set correctly to make any changes.
