Introducing Unity from NimbleHost
Posted: 11th March 2009 01:52 PM

After almost five months in development, four distinct incarnations, and much blood, sweat, and tears (IE 6 brought out some rather colorful language from us), it is my distinct pleasure to release our newest theme, Unity.

I’m biased, of course, but this theme is truly a groundbreaking one for the RapidWeaver community. Unity is the first and only theme (that we are aware of) that serves two different versions of your site to visitors - one for your desktop users, and an iPhone/Touch optimized version for the mobile crowd. No need to maintain separate sites within RapidWeaver.

One theme. Two versions of your site. Did I mention it’s beautiful, too?

Here’s a rundown of Unity’s features:

• The first and only theme currently available for RapidWeaver that can serve two different versions of your site to visitors - a desktop version and an iPhone/Touch optimized version - with no need to maintain two separate sites within RapidWeaver.
• ExtraContent enabled - Unity comes with 5 ExtraContent areas for ultimate design flexibility. Easily build a website like the pros!
• An extensive array of color pickers and customization options. Easily change the layout width or font, whether or not to hide the sidebar, even choose the height of the Page Banner to suit your needs!
• Integrates the open source lightbox clone FancyZoom so you can add smooth javascript effects to your images and other inline content.
• Extensively tested on the Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and IE 6 & 7 browsers
• Advanced CSS and Javascript rounds the corners of your custom page banner automatically, even in IE 6 & 7 - no need to be a graphics guru!
• Tested with the following 3rd Party Plugins: Accordion, Blocks, Collage 2, and Stacks. Barring any javascript conflicts, all other Plugins should work - if you find one that isn’t, let us know.
• Compatible with both RapidWeaver 4.x and 3.6

You can test drive Unity here, and get more information about it here.

We hope you enjoy using it as much as we did making it.

Smile Happy Weaving! Smile

Couple of questions regarding the banner graphic:

1. What different heights are in the variations list?

2. Can the banner graphic be hidden completely on a page?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

1. The heights available for the page banner are 150, 175, 200, 225, 250, 275, and 300px

2. Not currently, though I’m certainly open to adding that feature in a future release Smile

Hi,
Can the content colour section be changed from the menu?

Do you mean, is there an option to change the background color of the main content section? In that case, no there’s not. Let me know if I’m not answering your exact question.

Very nice theme, and thank you for such nice work.
Lyle

My pleasure! Smile

Not at all. There are 2 ExtraContent areas in the page banner (you can choose to display one or the other, or both), 1 above the main content (or below the banner graphic, same thing), and 2 below the main content (again, you can choose to display one or the other or both).

Hi,

Are there only 5 png and 5 jpg header images possible? It would be great to choose a different image for every page.

Well, we can certainly add more, it’s relatively easy to do. How many options would you prefer?

Don’t know ... I need about 30 different. Maybe it is possible to add a custom banner image not in the css but in the page settings…

Thanks for your fast reply

That is possible, actually, and is the best solution in this case. Here’s a quick and dirty how to:

1. Open the Page Inspector and click on the “Header” tab.
2. Select the “Assets” tab on that window (about halfway down).
3. Add you custom image
4. Select the “CSS” tab (to the left of the “Assets” tab)
5. Paste this css into the Custom CSS field:

#pageBanner {
    background-imageurl(assets/yourcustomimage.jpg);
}

***Make sure to change the image file to match what you added in the Assets tab.

That will give you a custom graphic of your choosing on every page you like.

Well done Jonathan! I’m a fan! It just warms my heart to see that someone cared enough about my jsPathto script to use it, too cool (in a highly geeky way).

Anyhow, nicely done, love the feel, the design, everything!

I’ll be sure to add this one to ExtraContent.info asap.
