‘Folder could not be created’ message. Can’t upload files.
Posted: 17th March 2010 01:19 AM

Hi everyone!

I’m trying to update a website, but whenever I try to open the sandwich file, it tells me that “the folder at path:/users/user*/..., could not be created, please manually create this folder”. The file then seems to open the website, but I can’t publish it.

I presume Rapidweaver is having problems as I’ve recently used migration assistant and the name of my home folder has changed, but there is seemingly no way I can re-point the file to read from the new folder.

I’ve had a look at the forum, with no luck and would really appreciate some help on this if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Regards,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Welcome to the forum.  I am unclear what you mean by opening the sandwich file and then the message that you are getting - what exactly are you trying to do?  opening the actual RW project file, opening the website on your server or what?

Can you explain what you mean by using the migration assistant - have you got yourself a new mac and tried to migrate all of your stuff? Have you moved all of your project file and associated files which include images, media etc as well because if you do not then there could well be broken links.  However a bit more information for us to be able to help you out.

Regards
Norman

Hi Norman,

Basically I’ve bought a new hard drive and did a clean install of SL on to it. The I used migration assistant to move all of my stuff across. Everything is in exactly the same directories as before, but the home folder’s name has changed. No other application has had problems.

All of the files associated with the site are there exaclty as they were before. I’m thinking I might go ahead and change my home folder’s name to what it was before unless there is an easier solution.

I double click on the project file and the message appears a few times. Then it opens in rapidweaver, but when I try to preview pages, it shows me that there are missing files.

Adrian,

That explains a lot - its a shame you did not have Time Machine on an external hard drive as you could just as easily have moved everything across and you would be up and running without any problems. I think what is happening is that you will need to change your home folders name to what it was previously and make sure that all of your files are in the same place so that not to break any links which were there previously.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I do use time machine, but that’s now backing up my new hard drive, so it’s no use anyway. I’ll try to rename the home folder anyway and let you know how that goes. Thanks for your help Norman!
